The moon, known by ancient civilizations as the Great Mother who ruled
the waxing and waning tides of life and knowledge, has been the
traditional multicultural symbol of fertility, representing both the physical
and the intellectual since the dawn of spiritual ideology. Goddess of
attained Wisdom, of new and renewed life. Rebirth. Intellectual
illumination. Revelations and insights.
In light of this beautiful, long-held philosophy, it would follow that the full
moon signifies an enlightened mind, brightly illumined with knowledge
and comprehension, while the new moon represents the shadowed
darkness of confusion and ignorance.
But what of the transitional stage of the moon in eclipse, where
knowledge is temporarily hidden from perceptual view? Shadowed and
obscured. Not quite within obtainable grasp. Symbolizing the intermittent
spells of forgetfulness or the clouding of the answers to life's seeming
mysteries.
Throughout life a compelling inquisitiveness of mind sparks an eternal
quest for knowledge. As children, curiosity is continually enlivened by
wonderment; as adults, that wonderment shifts to the desire for a deeper
understanding that, hopefully, leads to attained Wisdom.
As we strive to accomplish this goal, we research, study, and then
spend a great deal of time contemplating that which we've intellectually
absorbed. Oftentimes, our endeavors reveal multiple conclusions
engendered by the multifaceted and intertwining aspects of reality. Thus
do we realize that relativity frequently plays a vital role when deriving an
ultimate solution or answer to any philosophical inquiry. Yet, there are
times when, even after extensive contemplation has been applied,
answers and resolutions remain shrouded in mist and clarity becomes a
nebulous specter we cannot seem to grasp. The moon's eclipse,
therefore, represents that which Consciousness inherently knows — The
Knowing — but the limited human memory has forgotten — a state of
selective amnesia that can, once again, be illuminated by the igniting
spark of a singular key word, phrase, or expressed thought that
reawakens our sleeping ancient memory.
